Our history
Founded in 1952 by Louis Vanlommel and Anna Heylen, Vanlommel has grown into a thriving Belgian family business. What began as a calf trading business is now a company managing a fully-fledged production process for high-quality veal, from calf selection and feed production (Verveka Veevoeder) to calfskins (Dosca Huidenhandel). Want to learn more about our history? Let’s take you through our journey so far.
From calf trading to total production

The second generation joins the family business.

We decide to take transport into our own hands, setting up Internationaal Transport J. Vanlommel.

We begin producing our own consumer packaging, while also opening new offices in Olen.

The complete automation of our cutting room results in a closed and monitored process, from carcass to vacuum-packed cut.

Launch of ongoing monitoring and training in the slaughterhouse, carried out by an independent animal welfare specialist.

We open a new calf sorting centre.
2018
We invest in heat recovery technology at the slaughterhouse, thereby covering 50% of our heat requirements.

A new social space for staff, completely energy neutral and equipped with the most energy-efficient technologies.
