Animals, feed, people, energy... The production of veal requires attention be given to a wide range of factors. At Vanlommel, respect for animals, people and nature, along with a socially responsible approach, are central to everything we do.
Animal welfare
As a major player in the sector, Vanlommel is committed to promoting animal welfare. Together with stakeholders (government, consumers, veal farmers), we have drawn up a set of guiding principles, such as ‘Well and Fair’standards, which include rules that go beyond those stipulated by law. As such, we are implementing important measures in both our calf rearing facilities and our slaughterhouse.
Our measures for optimising animal welfare
The individual monitoring and evaluation of every animal is very important to us. Our focus is therefore on ensuring all animal welfare standards on an ongoing basis.

24/7 camera surveillance
Crucial locations are equipped with 24/7 camera surveillance by external, qualified partners. The images are assessed weekly by an independent party specialising in animal welfare, ensuring that animals and employees are being continuously monitored.

Weekly inspections
This independent party also conducts weekly inspections at our facilities. Thanks to their expertise, we are able to continuously improve our activities, as well as guarantee the highest level of animal welfare.

Evaluation
In addition to internal controls, we are constantly being evaluated by official bodies, which, together with our control system and 24/7 monitoring, ensure that all procedures are being fully complied with.
